About Fable’s Farm Dahlias
‘Orange Symphony’ was one of our transplants from our move from our separate lives to Fable Farm.
Fable Farms Dahlias is located in scenic Jaffrey, New Hampshire on less than one acre of land. We have a shorter growing period and harsher winter than many of the larger dahlia farms in the country. Between space and climate, we are very selective about the quality of our tuber stock and varieties we grow as well as how we grow them.
All of our dahlias are cultivated in a multitude of raised beds from responsibly harvested pine, filled with organic soil mix and organic compost - all locally sourced. This allows us to plant out a little earlier than if we were to plant directly into the ground. We start many varieties indoors under grow lights, and a greenhouse is in the plans this year so that we can start all of our dahlias early for 2024!

About Our Tubers
We’re not fond of that feeling of ordering a fantastic dahlia in autumn from a dahlia farm only to be notified it failed in storage or was sold out from under us the following spring. To avoid these pitfalls, we sell our tubers in late winter/early spring*, when we know our final stock after anything that might happen over the winter. Tubers are listed for sale from February to June. We ship in April to May depending on your climate zone. Orders going to warmer regions than ours (which are many) will have insulated boxes to assure your tubers get out of our chilly region safely. We guarantee our tubers have at least one eye.
*If you want to assume full responsibility for risk, and want to make certain you get a particular dahlia before we sell out, we do offer tubers after they have been freshly dug from the ground in November. These tubers are shipped within a day of being dug up, and will require you to overwinter them immediately. For these special orders, we assume no responsibility for their successful overwintering as that would be out of our hands. We highly recommend waiting until we release all of our tubers in spring!
About Cut Flowers
Cut flowers are for local pick up and delivery only at this time. If you would like to display or sell our flowers at your business, drop us an email! Flowers are in bloom from July to first hard frost (October or November.) Different varieties last longer in the vase than others, and we employ all the methods at our disposal to make our blooms look their best for the longest amount of time.
About Your Purchase
Thank you for any purchase, no matter how small (and some tubers and mignon flowers can be quite small!) All patronage to Fable Farm’s Dahlias goes directly back into our farm for upgrades, improvements to our storage and early-starting equipment, and our favorite part - obtaining new varieties of dahlias to grow for you! Thank you for helping us to do what we love. If you have pictures of our dahlias in your garden or at your event, we’d love to see them! Drop us a line.
About Fable
Fable was hatched on May 27th 2022. She is a sulcata tortoise, and she rules the garden in the warmer months. Her hobbies include eating dandelions, moving to a new location, and eating more dandelions. Sulcata tortoises can live up to 150 years, so she is a tortoise that will outlive us all! As such, we’re getting her future career secured by teacher her farming, and she’s judging us every step of the way. You’ll see her a lot on our blog during the warmer months! She is cared for together by the humans here on Fable’s Farm - Ben & Melanie. Also working the farm is Melanie’s father (Ben’s father-in-law) who we’ll just call dad.
